Customer photo review of Papaver orientale Roots - Fruit Punch Mix

I bought two 4 packs. One pack had two decent sized roots in it and the other had only one. The rest of the packs’ contents were just odd bits. I have had other issues with my (very large) order this year. I’m disappointed with the hit-and-miss quality on the most expensive items. I’m local, and this was probably my last try.

I did not get anything to come up.

Papaver orientale Roots - Fruit Punch Mix

Store owner replied: Hello Melinda. Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that none of your Oriental Poppy roots emerged! In Zone 7, roots planted in March would typically show signs of growth during the spring, though factors such as excessive moisture, poor drainage, planting depth, or temperature fluctuations can sometimes affect establishment. Oriental poppies also dislike overly wet soils and may struggle if conditions remain saturated during their early growth period. We understand how frustrating it is when a planting doesn't emerge as expected. We previously reached out with additional information and a resolution offer but have not yet heard back. If you'd still like assistance, please reply to that email and we'd be happy to help further. We want you to have success in your garden, and we are here to help!

I bought a lot of Poppy roots this year. So expensive, but I too love poppies. I followed the planting instructions that were linked on the Eden Brother's web site. It indicated that they should be planted a lot deeper than I ever have before. I hope most of them come up. If not, I'll contact Eden Bros and I know they will make it right. If most come up then I have learned an important fact about successfully planting poppies. I too have found variation in the root size in packets, but I generally feel that, taken as a whole, with the mix of super large roots and rather whimpy ones, it comes out even. I buy a lot of product from EB and I trust them. This is important because I'm landscaping my 10 acres of land following buckthron removal. If what is planted after buckthorn removal doesn't come up, one gets buckthorn back.

I got three roots last year and planted them in the fall. Only one came back this spring. So far it has not flowered. Disappointed because I love poppies!

Will start off by saying I ordered the smaller pack of 4. I was refunded because I only received 1 (although huge) root. While I greatly appreciate that this was handled in this way, I really wanted these poppies. My others from Eden Brothers have done well plus they’re my favorite flowers. When I reached out, I asked to have some additional shipped instead of the refund but they could which I understand. I decided to buy an 8 pack despite the huge price difference. It was in stock so I was excited to get these. I opened the package today to find only 4 roots. I either have the worst luck or don’t understand roots. There may have been 1 that was sort of root like but i have my doubts it’ll grow. I understand these are hand packed and I get human error, just really sucks because they cost a fortune and you still don’t get what you want.

I ordered Helen Elizabeth and fruit punch mix from Eden Brothers . I found my poppies very easy to grow in Ohio and I had several varieties that came back every year. For the poppies I ordered from Eden Brothers so far I only see 1 out of 8 plants emerging. The one is doing well but I have 7 missing. I am now in zone 8 in SC but my poppies in zone 5 were always emerging around this time. Right now I am very disappointed (or will be if the others don’t start emerging soon). I can’t respond on color as the lone poppy is not ready to bloom.

I was disappointed with my 6 plants last year, I didn't get any flowers. This year they all got large and they're making enormous, bright, amazing flowers. A lot of them. The colors are really stunning and the blooms are bigger than my hand and sturdy for poppies.

The roots were small and a little squishy when I received them. They ended up molding :-(

I’ve had good experiences with other plants from Eden brothers but these did not sprout at all last year after planting and have not started to sprout this year so I am thinking they won’t. Very disappointing since these looked so pretty!

Store owner replied: Hello, Yevgenia Thank you for relaying your experience with these Papavers. Our apologies they did not produce well for you this season. Planted these this spring, very carefully followed the Eden Brothers instructions for planting. None of the 4 came up.

I purchased these papaver roots this spring. They all sprouted and grew but after few weeks they started to have brown and died. I'm in 7A.

I was really looking forward to these. I planted them per directions. 3 out of 4 sprouted, but then died back after a few weeks. I'm going to wait to see if they sprout again next year, but don't really have high hopes. I'm in zone 9B, so it wasn't because of the cold. It seems a couple other people said the same, so I probably should have passed on them.

Unfortunately only 2 out of 4 roots doing well. The other 2 never grew. Not a good deal.
