As with any planting I began with fertile ground. I had great experience this season with the Sugar & Spice. I planted these three different ways, per the spacing instructions in a border context, in containers and a randomly in a large bed. I didn’t plant these marigolds until early July and despite the heat they took off with minimal maintenance. Vigorous growth and incredibly productive flowering. I had yellow, orange and a few very light almost white flowers. Lots of visual interest with this these and they’re still going. Insofar as my border plantings I staked these off and pruned in order to restrict the flowering to the top 1/3rd of the plant as opposed to the larger bed where I had furrowed rows and in this format i neither staked them off nor pruned and the result was complete ground coverage with flowers approximately 20 to 36 inches in height. The stakes border marigolds reached grew beyond 36 inches. Regarding the container planted seeds I definitely should have used larger containers although I still had productive flowering. That all said the results overall met and exceeded the description which is of course very gratifying.
